Jeff is an Associate Professor at the Metropolitan State University of Denver in the Department of Aviation and Aerospace Science, and the owner of Leading Edge Strategies, a top aviation management training and consulting company.
A certified trainer by both the Anthony Robbins company and the FranklinCovey corporation, he is also the lead author for the text book Practical Aviation Security: Predicting and Preventing Future Threats. After over 25 years in the security industry, Jeff also recently passed the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) exam for the American Society of Industrial Security.
As the lead Airport Security Coordinator trainer for the American Association of Airport Executives, he also drafted the Airport Certified Employee-Security program body of knowledge and served as lead author of AAAE’s Certified Member body of knowledge, which encompasses the baseline information for an individual to become an Accredited Airport Executive. Jeff has trained over 1,000 Airport Security Coordinators,over 800 TSA Transportation Security Inspectors and hundreds of others in airport management and operations.
Jeff is considered one of the nations and world’s experts on aviation security, lecturing at conferences such as the Airport Law Enforcement Agencies Network, the Air Line Pilot’s Association,the American Association of Airport Executives and others. He has been published numerous times in Aviation Security International magazine, Airport magazine, Plane & Pilot and other publications. He has also authored two chapters on aviation security for two other texts on airport management and on international aviation security practices and is frequently called upon to comment in print and broadcast media outlets on aviation issues. Jeff is also one of the top industry trainers – in addition to his aviation training programs, he is also a certified trainer of the 7 Habits of HighlyEffective People and Franklin Covey’s Leadership Modular series.
Jeff began his career as a U.S. Coast Guard Officer. He entered airport management in the Operations Department at StapletonInternational Airport in 1992, worked ops and developed the initial airfield manager training programs for DIA, then helped open Denver International Airport in 1995. He served as the Assistant Security Director until 1998, then moved to Jefferson County Airport as the Director of Public Relations, Marketing and Property Management. He was appointed the Airport Manager at Jefferson County Airport in 1999 and served until 2002. He also was appointed to a term on the Colorado Aeronautics Board. Jeff has a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Colorado Christian University and a Bachelor’s of Science in aviation from the Metropolitan State College of Denver. He remains an active commercial/instrument rated pilot.
Through Leading Edge Strategies he provides security training and consulting, facilitates emergency exercises, and provides expert witness services. He recently just finished consulting for Massport on the 9/11 case.
